Frequently Asked Questions
What is a typical schedule?
Campers train on and off the ice daily, participating in dry land, strength training and shooting workouts along with classroom time each weekday. Games are played on Saturday mornings. There are 32 hockey related activities per week. The blend of off-ice training and meetings with quality ice time enhances total muscle group development. The end result is a bigger, quicker, stronger, faster, smarter and classier athlete.
When are check-in/check-out times?
Camp registration is every Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. You can check in late if you arrive at camp late due to travel.
Campers play a game the Saturday they are scheduled to leave. Games start as early as 9 a.m. and end as late as 3 p.m. Campers can check out following their game unless they are attending multiple weeks. Game schedules are posted online on Thursday mornings and in the Pro Shop on Fridays. Parents, friends and other relatives are invited to attend games.
What should I bring to camp?
- Toiletries and personal items.
- Bed linen (for a twin size bed), a pillow and blanket. Most campers use a sleeping bag.
- Towels for bathing and swimming.
- Clothing suitable for physical activity, including: sweat pants, t-shirts, sweatshirts, light weight jacket, swimsuit and running shoes. Campers do a lot of running and jumping, making the proper shoes critical in order to prevent injury.
- Full hockey gear is required. Hockey gear will be left at the rink. Bring an extra stick to use on the shooting range. The shooting range is outside and on concrete so it should not be an expensive stick. Sticks are available in the Pro Shop as well.
- Rollerblades if you have them. It’s not a necessity, but there is a trail outside of camp we often use to go to Nisswa or Dairy Queen.
- Campers can fish during down time, but fishing gear is not provided. Some counselors take their groups fishing on our pontoon boat.
- Some, not all, rooms are air-conditioned. You may want to bring a fan.
- Alarm clock
What shouldn't I bring to camp?
- Electrical items such as TVs, DVD players, MP3 players, IPods, CDs, headphones or computers. MHC is not responsible for lost or stolen properties at camp.
- Weapons such as knives or guns of any sort. If we think it will hurt someone we reserve the right to take it away. We also reserve the right to check campers’ bags for weapons.
- Food. We provide three meals a day and snacks.
Where is the ice rink?
The Brainerd Area Civic Center is located at 502 Jackson Street in Brainerd, about a 20-minute drive from camp. It has two sheets of ice and enough locker rooms for each group at MHC to store their hockey equipment for the entire week.
What if I decide to cancel?
Payment will be applied as credit toward next year’s camp for any cancellations made after June 1 (including medical reasons). Credits will not be issued after June 13, unless the cancellation is due to medical reasons that are documented by our on-staff trainers.
There are no cash refunds. Absolutely no refunds or credits will be issued for campers sent home for conduct deemed unacceptable by the camp owners/staff.
Which airport should I fly into?
You must fly into the Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport. Delta Airlines/Mesaba is the only airline that flies into that airport. We have shuttles available to pick up campers ($25 one way). You must make all of your own flight arrangements and call the camp with the information. Visit www.brainerdairport.com for more information.
What is the Pro Shop Bank Account?
Campers are required to put ALL of their cash (we recommend $30-$40 per week) into their Pro Shop Bank Account, preventing it from getting lost or stolen. Campers deposit their money and can buy things at the Pro Shop by telling us what they want and we deduct it from their account. If a camper wants to go off campus and buy something, they simply withdraw cash for their trip. If any money remains at the end of their sessions, campers withdraw it from their account when they check out of camp.
