Chuck
and Clariene Grillo
OWNERS, MHC
PITTSBURGH PENGUINS SCOUT
For 26 seasons, Chuck has been
under contract with the NHL. From 1995 to 1996 he held the
position of Executive Vice President, Director of Player
Personnel for the San Jose Sharks. Grillo supervised the club's
scouting department and player development program and was
responsible for their draft selections. He was the Sharks
primary source of information regarding player trades and
acquisitions. Chuck, currently in his last year of
scouting, is in his sixth (6th) season with the Pittsburgh
Penguins as an Amateur Scout.
He has been part of a staff that
drafted Sydney Crosby, Evgeny Malkin, Marc-Andre Fleury, Ryan
Whitney, Kristopher Letang and Ryan Stone as well as some promising
prospects: The Pittsburgh draft history during Chuck's tenure is as
follows:
2006-Jordan Staal, Carl Sneep, Brian Strait, Chad Johnson,
Timo Seppanen;
2005-Sidney Crosby, Michael Gergen, Kristopher Letang,
Tommi Leinonen, Tim Crowder, Jean-Philippe Paquet, Joseph Vitale;
2004-Evgeny Malkin, Johannes Salmonsson, Alex Goligoski, Nick
Johnson, Brian Gifford, Tyler Kennedy, Michal Sersen, Moises
Gutierrez, Chris Peluso, Jordan Morrison, David Brown, Brian Ihnacak;
2003-Marc-Andre
Fleury, Ryan Stone, Jonathan Filewich, Daniel Carcillo, Paul
Bissonnette, Yevgeny Isakov, Lukas Bolf, Andy Chiodo, Stephen Dixon,
Joe Jensen, Matt Moulson; 2002-Ryan Whitney, Ondrej Nemec,
Erik Christensen, Daniel Fernholm, Andrew Sertich, Cam Paddock,
Robert Goepfert, Patrick Bartschi, Maxime Talbot, Ryan Lannon,
Dwight Labrosse.
Thinking back over all the years,
one thing comes to mind. "Players we draft, sign as free
agents, acquire in a trade or on a waiver wire, have become a part
of our lives forever. The same holds true for all the young
men and women who have played at their highest level possible level
and/or gone on to be productive citizens. There is something
special about working with young people and staff that work to go to
another level."
They all have something in common.
Regardless how they grade out, they seem to have the composure,
confidence, competitiveness and focus to complement their skill
level. Add in the charisma, class and character with an
attitude and a swagger and we have a person who will impact the
people they work and play for.
