One of three players who has mastered
our plyometric stations so it's no wonder that his skating has
improved to the level of an NHL defenseman. He is also a
master of keeping humor a part of his life and game. Hockey is
a fun game that has a serious, tough and finesse side to it.
When you watch him go through the plyometric and dry land stations,
you realize he has lulled his opponents in life to sleep with his
light hearted approach on the out side and his burning desire to
play in the NHL on the inside.
The humor side of life and the game
has the same importance as the hard working and winning side of the
game.
Matt has walked in to my office every
summer and asked the same questions. They are as follows:
What do I have to do to improve my game? What do I have to do
to play in the NHL? How do I define my game to make the most
out of the assets I have? He accepts full responsibility when
you tell him something he doesn't want to hear and you can almost
feel he is telling himself the same things.
He is a special player and special
person with a huge upside that will have a long career in the NHL if
he continues to approach life and the game like he has to date.
This along with the Lehun, Lehtinen
and Cook relationship leaves us with memories that will last our
life time and more. One of the better stories over the past
twenty-five years would be Matt Greene, Rob Lehtinen and Jonathan
Lehun's relationship that was formed and built on over the past 10
years. Charlie Cook was an original member and all four are
Division I hockey players (North Dakota, Northern Michigan, St.
Cloud and Owen Sound, Cornell). This unique friendship was
formed @ this camp and continues on as we write. I can think
of nothing more special and this is certainly one of the main
reasons this camp is so special.
When you experience the Matt Greene's
of the hockey world at this camp, you realize that you are in the
right business for all the right reasons. He is one of those
people that give us incentive to make this place a better place to
live and train during the summer months. Add in the other
three guys and the reasons are more glaring. -Chuck Grillo, Owner MHC |
