"I love seeing stories like this. This gives younger players incentive to emulate Carl Sneep and keeps Carl in the "no respect mode" in terms of continuing to work towards his ultimate goals. Win, win situation for all concerned." - Gringo

SNEEP TO EMBARK ON HOCKEY JOURNEY by Mike Bialka, Brainerd Dispatch
Carl Sneep was introduced to former NHL standouts like Peter Mahovlich, Eddie Johnston and Rick Kehoe at Saturday's NHL draft in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Someday, NHL draft picks might be introduced to Sneep.

The Brainerd High School graduate was in Vancouver last weekend where the Pittsburgh Penguins picked him second in the second round, the 32nd player selected overall. He was the 26th-ranked skater by the NHL Central Scouting Bureau.

"It was right around where I was expecting to get drafted so I was happy with that," Sneep said Monday.

No Brainerd player has ever been drafted higher than Sneep. The highest previous Brainerd selection was Sandy Smith, also by the Penguins, in the fifth round in 1986.

"I never really dreamed about going to the draft or getting drafted," Sneep said. "It was more like wanting to play in the NHL one day. This is kind of the step on the path to get there."
