MHC camper Brad
Malone becomes a FIGHTING SIOUX!!!(Oct.
2006)
Forward Brad Malone, projected as a late
first-round draft pick by two publications, gave a verbal commitment to
join UND next fall. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound forward from Miramachi,
New Brunswick, picked UND over Wisconsin.
“I really liked the campus,” said Malone, who visited
UND during the Manitoba exhibition earlier this month. “It's a small
town. I'm comfortable with the area. After meeting the guys and seeing
what it's all about, I knew that's where I wanted to be.”
Malone comes from a hockey-rich family. His cousin,
Ryan, a former St. Cloud State standout, plays forward for the
Pittsburgh Penguins. His father, Jim, was a former first-round pick of
the New York Rangers and his uncle, Greg, played 12 years in the NHL.
Brad Malone describes himself as a power forward who
likes to use his size. A scouting report by McKeen's Hockey says
Malone is “a gifted playmaker who is especially strong at creating plays
from the wing.” The report also says he likes going to the net looking
for garbage goals.
Malone, who turns 18 in May, will play for the Sioux
Falls Stampede in the United States Hockey League this season.
“(The USHL) is a bit of an adjustment,” said Malone, who
played at a Boston prep school last year. “I hope to get better all
around. There always is room for improvement. I'd like to get quicker,
because the new game is a lot quicker. I'm excited to learn, to develop,
and hopefully next year I'll be able to come in and have an impact.”
Malone is the fourth 2007 recruit for the Sioux. He
joins forward Evan Trupp and defensemen Jake Marto and Derrick LaPoint.
Transfer Shea Hamilton also will be eligible next fall.
U.N.- OH YAH does it again!(9/5/06)
MHC adds one more college hockey player to their roster!! This
summer Joey Frazer committed to play college hockey for the
University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks for the 2009 season.
Frazer, 5'5" 155 pounds, will begin his junior year at Brainerd High
School and will play for the Warrior hockey team. Joey spent
his entire summer training at Minnesota Hockey Camps this year and in
years past. This scholarship offer comes as no surprise to MHC's owner
Chuck Grillo:
"You only need to observe Joe Frazer training and playing a few times
to know he is committed to everything he does. Joe trains here at least
nine weeks every summer and he competes as hard in dry land as he does
on the ice. He is a high energy guy, one who will be in your face and
tough to play against when he isn't generating offense. Joe is a very
likable and determined young man with Charisma, Character and Class; all
the ingredients of a winner." "Our goal is to find more young men like
Joe Frazer. They are fun and rewarding to work with."

and was named to the all-WCHA first team.
